Top 5 Stoner Movies

Posted by Seth Styles on

Dedicating a day to getting lifted and watching some of your favorite movies has to be one of the top things a stoner looks forward to. There are many classic films out there worth quoting, and numerous scenes to choose from that will have you laughing uncontrollably. We’re here to show you some of our recommendations by giving you the top 5 stoner movies you’ll need to watch with your CARTA in hand.

#5. How High (2001)

Method Man and Redman make their acting debut. The plot introduces Silas (Method Man) and Jamal (Redman), the main characters of the movie who are avid stoners with only one goal, smoking the best bud money can buy. Before getting ready to take the SAT, Silas and Jamal decide to roll up in the parking lot. For “testing purposes”, they decide to mix their flower with ashes from Silas’s deceased friend Ivory. During their sesh they summon the ghost of Ivory, who is only visible to them. With the help of Ivory, Silas and Jamal get a perfect score on their SAT exam which catches the attention of multiple universities. They decide to go to Harvard and the escapades start from there. This joint will have you rolling.

#4. Cheech and Chong Up in Smoke (1978)

This stoney classic spawns an adventure with legendary comedic duo, Cheech and Chong. Anthony Stoner (Tommy Chong) decides to leave home to get away from his strict parents and ends up meeting Pedro de Pecas (Cheech Marin). Their adventures revolve around finding some good kush, which eventually leads them to compete in a rock band contest as they perform “Earache My Eye”.

#3. Pineapple Express (2008)

Seth Rogen has always had a thing for Mary Jane, so much so that he decided to write a movie based on its existence. Rogen also stars in the movie, playing one of the lead characters Dale Denton who is your average process server and buddha connoisseur. He visits his plug Saul, played by James Franco, and together they smoke a rare strain known as “Pineapple Express”. During their sesh they witness a corrupt cop and infamous drug lord murder an innocent man, causing them to flee the scene, but a roach is left behind. The felons discover the roach shortly after and decide to hunt down the negligent stoners. This film is filled with chaotic scenes and comedic segments that are worthy of enjoying while taking hits from your e-rig.

#2. Grandma’s Boy (2006)

Potheads and gamers join forces in this unique cinema about a video game tester named Alex and what life is like living under his grandma's roof. Alex, (played by Allen Covert), moves in with grandmother after getting kicked out by his landlord for having no more rent money. He is getting ready to release his own game, but he quickly discovers that his grandma’s chores and roommates are delaying his final touches. A higher up named Samantha (Linda Cardellini) is sent by corporate to oversee the production of a new video game that is supposed to come out soon. Samantha catches Alex’s eye and they both spark interest in each other, but an odd fellow who goes by J.P. (Joel Moore) tries to get in the way of their relationship and competes to steal Alex’s thunder. Although romance is involved, this movie is nowhere near being a romantic comedy. Many sesh circles take place in the film, with lots of familiar faces playing a role on screen. The ganja and video game combo was greatly appreciated in the making of this film.

#1. Dazed and Confused (1993)

It’s 1976 and the last day of school has finally arrived. Juniors turn into seniors and a new crop of freshmen are expected to arrive. The typical hazing, smoking, drinking, partying, and rock & roll you would expect from a group of high school students in the ‘70s are what make this film an instant classic. Many star studded actors got their first role in this film as well such as Matthew McConaughey, Parker Posey, Ben Affleck, and Jason London. The drug filled humor and memorable quotes that bring this flick to life are a must see while getting baked.

There were many honorable mentions worth watching that did not make our list such as The Big Lebowski, Friday, Half Baked, and Super Troopers. We hope you enjoy these stoner-comedies as you relax on your lazy day. With your dab rig on deck, some popcorn, and cold pop, it will be impossible to miss out on all the laughs.

Can You Bring Your CARTA On A Plane?

Posted by Seth Styles on

We’ve written exhaustively about the unparalleled portability of the Focus V CARTA. Since it’s a portable dab rig supported by 18350 rechargeable batteries, you could feasibly invest in replacement batteries and go years without seeing a power outlet. In this way, we like to think of CARTA as the world’s most portable e-rig. And while scientifically your CARTA should be able to go anywhere on the planet, maybe even beyond (take note, Musk, Branson and Bezos), the laws of man may make it difficult to actually bring your CARTA everywhere.

Such laws are why we’re often asked about whether you can bring a CARTA, or any other e-rigs for that matter, on a plane. The short answer is: yes, you can totally bring a portable dab rig on a domestic flight. But we recommend reading the long answer below before packing your bags.

A Note About Domestic and International Travel

We should issue the disclaimer that the information in this blog only pertains to the United States. You might be good on international travel between countries with like minded laws such as Canada, but other countries with stricter stances on this industry may enact harsh consequences for any device that could even hint at a violation of their regulations. We’ve heard of people being turned away at their destination for less and the last thing you want to do after a 13-hour flight is turn right back around and get on a plane home.

If you still want to risk it, at least take the time to familiarize yourself with your destination country’s laws to gauge your chances of bringing a portable dab rig through their airports. But what about U.S. states with a more conservative view on our industry? We recommend checking out the official site of the U.S. TSA to peruse any state-specific guidelines. While we can’t imagine you getting hung up for bringing your CARTA anywhere in the U.S., if the TSA passes you over to local law enforcement (which they’ve been known to do), all bets are off.

No Batteries in Your Checked Baggage

When flying in the domestic U.S., your Focus V CARTA likely won’t trigger as much scrutiny as your 18350 rechargeable batteries. Batteries must be packed into your carry-on luggage to reduce the potential for any fires in the cargo hold. If you mistakenly put your batteries in your checked baggage, you run the risk of having them confiscated and discarded… and that’s in a best case scenario. The worst case scenario would be arriving at your destination to find that your checked luggage is still detained at your point of origin. While we’d remove our batteries from our e-rigs prior to packing them and bring our e-rigs as well as our batteries in our carry-on luggage, we’ve heard of people packing their portable dab rigs in their checked baggage without incident. But most sources would agree that the batteries are really what the TSA are concerned about. Still, there are circumstances where an e-rig could raise suspicions and possibly a few nostrils from a local police dog.

The Cleaner the Portable Dab Rig, the Better

Due to federal laws and some states being stricter than others, residue in your Focus V CARTA can be a problem. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to give it a deep cleaning before bringing it on any flights. Some states could even try to pin possession charges on you for residue, so you’ll want to clean your e-rig until it’s in mint condition. With your isopropyl alcohol of at least 90% IPA and your trusty Focus V Dab Swabs or an equivalent cleaning tool, cover any inch where residual deposits could cling. You want your portable dab rig to be canine proof, so scrub it once, twice, three times if you have to. Make sure to remove the glass top of your e-rig and give the intake hole a lot of attention. Anywhere with even a hint of stickiness needs a thorough scrub. Carefully remove and disassemble your atomizer, swabbing it down with your dab swabs, paying special attention to any residue trapped in the threading. With the coil removed, pop it in a glass of 90% (or higher) iso to soak for a minimum of 90 minutes.

After the coil has finished it’s iso bath, rinse it with warm water and then let it air dry for a solid 24 hours. Then, it should be clear to reinstall into your portable dab rig. Make sure to burn it for a good 10 seconds to fry away any residual iso before use. Once you’re satisfied that there isn’t even a speck of residue clinging to your e-rig, you can remove the batteries to pack them into your carry-on and store your Focus V CARTA in your checked baggage or carry-on luggage as you see fit. That’s a long way of saying “Yes, you can bring your Focus V CARTA on the plane when flying domestically.” But the details will help you to make sure there are no pleasant surprises waiting for you at the destination terminal. The CARTA retains its title as the most portable dab rig on the planet! Did you really have any doubts?

Northern California mainly boasts forests and wildlife that bring beautiful views to the state. It is also home to the Bay area, with booming cities such as San Francisco, San Jose, and Sacramento. Southern California captures the city life and aesthetic beaches. Cities such as San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles are a melting pot, bringing people from various cultures and backgrounds together as they set out to accomplish their dreams and aspirations.

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park (San Diego, CA)

Located along the Point Loma shoreline in sunny San Diego, Sunset Cliffs is a great location to look out into the ocean and be at peace with your CARTA. These cliffs range over a mile long and cover about 68 acres of land. Here you will find secluded beaches, as well as a public beach at the beginning of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard. There are also numerous caves that can be found within Sunset Cliffs, making it a perfect private location to get a few rips off your e-rig.

Hollywood Hills (Los Angeles, CA)

Ever wonder if you could use your CARTA near the Hollywood sign? Well, turns out you can! Once you drive past the homes located in the Hollywood Hills, you reach this scenery with an amazing view overlooking the city of Los Angeles. Small hiking trails allow you to get right above the Hollywood sign as well where you could sesh for as long as you’d like.

Hawk Hill (San Francisco, CA)

Hawk Hill, located in Marin Headlands, provides a unique experience with a spectacular view overlooking the Golden Gate bridge. Shoreline Park (Santa Barbara, CA)

Santa Barbara boasts some beautiful beaches, so taking your e-rig to catch a glimpse is a must. Our favorite beach lookout is located in Shoreline Park, which sits along the coast of Santa Barbara. This 14.6 acre coastline has paths you can walk that offer city, mountain, and ocean viewpoints. There are picnic tables, benches, and BBQ pits spread throughout the park as well in case you were looking to whip up a nice meal after taking a few rips from your CARTA. Built-in binoculars are located near the railings as well for both whale and bird watching purposes.

Griffith Park Observatory (Los Angeles, CA)

The Observatory sits at the top of a hill overlooking Downtown LA and offers an astronomical experience inside the building, literally. Feeling dazed while learning about space will have you thinking you’re in another universe. Right outside the building you will find a viewpoint that displays a decorative portrait of the city. We recommend moving your sesh towards the evening to get the best experience of the city lights that shine throughout Los Angeles.

Proper 18350 Battery Maintenance for Your CARTA Electric Dab Rig

Posted by Seth Styles on

One of the features that really sets the Focus V CARTA electric dab rig apart from its peers is its 18350 battery-powered portability. But with great power comes great responsibility. Okay, maybe the responsibility isn’t great, but proper battery maintenance is a vital part of keeping your portable dab rig operating at its optimum potential. Even outside the realm of Focus V, taking proper care of your batteries is serious business since failing to do so can result in risks to personal health and safety, not to mention potential damage to nearby hardware and the surrounding environment. Want to make sure you’re on the up and up with proper 18350 battery care? Here are a few tips and tricks to keep those batteries performing at their best.

About the 18350 Battery Pair Included with Your Kit

The batteries included with your electric dab rig aren’t just any old batteries… these are high quality rechargeable 3.7V 1200mAh 18350 batteries. If you don’t know what that big string of numbers and letters means, it basically translates to “these batteries are really good.” And they’re easy to charge too thanks to the included USB-C charging cable that can be paired with any quality 5V 1A USB port to get your depleted 18350 batteries back in ship shape. We strongly stand by Focus V-approved 18350 batteries and our included charging equipment but often receive questions about using other charging cables, other 18350 batteries, etc. We recommend using only the Focus V-approved equipment.

Tips For Charging Your Batteries

We’re assuming that your CARTA portable dab rig is not your first experience with batteries, so you’ve seen how they can degrade over time. But there are a few simple things you can do to stretch the longevity of your batteries… and you can begin the moment you get your CARTA out of the box. Start by charging your electric dab rig a minimum of 2 hours to guarantee it is charged to its fullest. When you power on the e-rig, you’ll be greeted by the LEDs informing you of the level of your charge.

We discourage customers from using super charger or fast charger ports because they run the risk of overcharging (and thus damaging) the device. So, what can you use? Your best option is a standard external battery charger designed for use with lithium batteries.

It’s important to keep your batteries charged and properly stored when not in use (and we’ll get into proper storage of 18350 batteries later in this blog). Also, storing your batteries below a 50% charge can sap their longevity, so always make sure your batteries are charged up before any extended periods without use. But it’s also a bad idea to exceed the maximum continuous charge of your batteries. Some charging ports will clue you into the charging status of your batteries which is the ideal situation. Otherwise, you may need to do a bit of estimation.

The preferred atmospheric temperature for charging 18350 batteries is within the rather generous range of 50°F (10°C) to 113°F (45°C). Also, it’s a good idea to always be present when your batteries are charging. The chances of any mishaps are minimal, but if you’re present, you can stop any situations from getting out of control. If you notice that your batteries are unusually hot, cease charging and allow them to cool for a bit before trying again. While all of this may seem ominous, each Focus V battery is thoroughly tested and quality checked for maximum efficiency and safety.

Since charging can take some time, we recommend keeping at least one extra pair of 18350 batteries(https://focusv.com/collections/carta-accessories/products/carta-18350-batteries-2-pack) on hand so the good times can keep on rolling right through those charging doldrums.

How to Best Store Your Batteries

Proper storage of your 18350 batteries can also go a long way toward a premium portable experience. As a general rule, your batteries should always be stored in a cool, dry place in a non-conductive storage case (the one that we include with the purchase of your portable dab rig kit is a perfect example). We recommend always keeping a pair of batteries together. Mixing pairs can result in an uneven charge which will put unnecessary, potentially damaging stress on your electric dab rig. Keep your batteries out of the path of direct sunlight and exposure to any extreme temperatures or weather conditions. So, basically, you’re just using common sense.

It’s a lesser known though gravely important piece of knowledge that touching your battery to loose change, other loose batteries or any metal surface could result in a short-circuit. For this reason, we recommend refraining from dropping loose batteries into your pocket.

If you really do a deep dive on safety precautions for 18350 batteries, you’ll find a pretty massive list (our latest edition of the Focus V CARTA instruction manual includes close to 30 of them!) But you can eliminate most of any potential grief by paying close attention to everything that we’ve covered in our blog. Sure, you can still enjoy the CARTA electric dab rig without a battery backup, but the batteries contribute immensely to the freedom that makes CARTA the most portable dab rig on the planet (and off as far as we know). Treat your batteries well and they’ll return the favor!

How to Find Concentrate-Specific Heat Settings for Your Smart Rig

Posted by Seth Styles on

Our Focus V customer care team is often asked about the best temperatures for consuming specific concentrate types with your smart rig. If you’re looking for a quick answer to this question, we’ll spare you the disappointment: this is one of those queries that doesn’t really have a simple, cut-and-dry answer. We can guide you to a great starting point, though you may still need to do a bit of experimenting to find the temperature that best fits your personal preference. But if you want to make that experimentation easier on yourself, you’ve come to the right blog. Today, we’re going to help you narrow down the best temperatures for consuming specific concentrate types with your Focus V CARTA electric dab rig.

The Best Heat Range for Concentrates in General

Putting the smart rig aside for a moment, let’s get a general idea for vaping temperature thresholds for concentrates as a whole. Concentrates will always require higher temperatures for adequate consumption than what we’d use for dry herb. Anything below 315°F (157°C) will be too low to initiate true vaporization, giving way instead to lackluster clouds with weak flavor and potency. Low temperature vaporization is usually relegated to the range between 315°F (157°C) and 450°F (232°C), though even the top of this range will be on the low end for many CARTA users. This range is popularly referenced in low temperature dabbing, where concentrates are efficiently consumed without sacrificing delicate terpenes and flavor profiles. The range starting at 450°F (232°C) and going up through 600°F (316°C) would be considered the standard vaporization range for concentrates. With more emphasis being put on flavor over cloud production, we see trends skewing lower, but this is still a popular range for wax consumption. Going much higher comes at the price of flavor and lends a sharp harshness to hits. Still, some people even dab higher than 900°F (482°C); a heat that the average connoisseur would find disrespectful to the concentrates as well as the user’s throat. Yet, overall, we’re seeing more and more people coming around to the understanding that cooler temperatures lend to a more enjoyable sesh.

Where to Start with the CARTA Smart Rig

As you likely already know, concentrates come in all manner of viscosities which can directly influence the level of heat required for efficient, flavorful consumption. When using an electric dab rig like the CARTA, we’d recommend taking a small amount of concentrate to start and adjusting your temperature to around 440°F (227°C) up to 500°F (260°C). From here, you can adjust up or down as necessary to best suit your personal tastes, though we can’t imagine finding much luck with flavor and potency below the 440°F (227°C) mark. Erring on the lower side of this temperature range is often the better choice with your smart rig since starting too high can burn off what’s enjoyable about your wax in the first place.

So, What About Different Types of Concentrates?

As an additional point of guidance, we’ll remind you that denser concentrates require more heat to be adequately consumed. It shouldn’t be too hard to imagine that a thick slab of stubborn, sticky, crusty concentrate would require a higher temperature setting for efficient consumption than oily, runny types with lower viscosity. But no matter the type of concentrate you’re using, we’d still recommend you start somewhere in the range of 440°F (227°C) before adjusting to best suit your style.

While we could draft up a precise chart showing you exactly what temperatures we prefer for certain types of concentrates, it would still be just a collection of suggestions based on our own styles. Tastes in dabbing are as diverse as tastes in food. The best we can do is give you that golden range of 440°F (227°C) to 500°F (260°C) to start your experimentation. But as a consolation, there are few experiments as enjoyable as those involving your CARTA smart rig.
